Virtual Training During the Pandemic
VIRTUAL TRAINING DURING THE
PANDEMIC
The Department of Professional
Studies (DPS), CHRIST had organized a unique VIRTUAL soft skills training
session for the final year students of BCom (Professional) and BBA (Finance
& Accounting) in the month of October 2020 due to the sudden disruption in
physical classes owing to the Covid pandemic which had created gaps in students
learning of vital subjects. The objective of the session was to have a
comprehensive approach wherein subject based knowledge needs to be fine-tuned
in terms of application and analytical skills on a situational basis which
provide further impetus to good campus placements
These sessions covered the entire
gamut of campus recruitment process, right from resume building to mock
interview sessions and helped the students get valuable insights into the
thought process from an interviewer perspective, which will in turn help them
to land excellent placement opportunities in the industry. This differential
approach was taken to facilitate and incorporate all the prerequisites integral
to the training in a physical setting.
The sessions were conducted by industry
experts like Mr Narendranath Nair, former General Manager of Wipro Ltd, Mr
Hitesh Sirohia, Assistant Vice President, Deutsche Bank and Mr Mohammed Zain,
Manager, Process Transformation at Wipro Ltd and a total of 92 students
participated in this over a period of 50 hours. It was a session where decision
makers from the industry provided rare insights of the approach from a
recruitment team’s perspective.
The session on Resume building
covered the five basic rules of preparation i.e what it should have / should
not have, format and layout of information, standing out in uniformity and
readability.
The Interviewer Game plan session
included lessons from Sun Tzu, a renowned Chinese philosopher to provide the
students an insight into the interviewer’s psychology and the stages of
decision making. This session also covered different companies and recruitment
procedures followed with examples from a cross section of the industry. Based
on the sessions, a discussion on what is a good game plan to adopt while
cracking an interview; key areas to focus on while preparing; tools that can be
used for the preparation and improvising before the BIG DAY were deliberated
upon.
Mock interview sessions simulated
a real-life interview experience. A panel of interviewers conducted the session,
and an external panel evaluated and gave specific inputs to selected candidates
on areas that need focus. The whole process was a live demonstration to the
students on various facets like communication, body language, posture, eye
contact etc.
The closing session concluded
with a recording playback and feedback and also a recap. Feedback included learnings
from the mock interviews and comparing notes from the various sessions. This
was a completely interactive session, where students could ask questions and
take notes.
