Student Testimonials – Placements at Deloitte

Deloitte, one of the Big Four global auditing firms has been a regular recruiter at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) since 2008. Established in 1845, Deloitte now has around 3.30 lac employees spread across 150 countries with a yearly turnover of 23, 157 million dollars as of 2020. Deloitte has been one of the major recruiters in terms of numbers and has hired more than 300 Under Graduate and Post Graduate students since 2018. During the current academic year alone, Deloitte has recruited more than 150 students across various programmes.  The testimonial of the following students reflect the enthusiasm and experience of Campus placements with Deloitte.

"The pandemic had dire repercussions on the job sector. With innumerable posts on my LinkedIn feed of people looking for new jobs after getting laid off or because their offer letter was rescinded, I had my fair share of apprehension if I could ever get placed in these times. I was proved wrong by my Christ University and the companies that came, who, despite these unforeseen and unprecedented times, coped remarkably to the changing scenario. On the 4th of September, I got placed at Deloitte, one of my dream companies. I am offered the role of an associate analyst, and as I have a background in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics, I feel it is the best fit for me. Fortunately, many of my classmates from BSc (Economics, Statistics and Mathematics) got placed in some of the best companies that came to recruit us. I believe my department has a significant part to play in this. Right from the very beginning, we were given skill improvement sessions that focused on soft skill development along with the perpetual push to come out of our comfort zones and make the most of the opportunities that came our way. My department also encouraged participating in extracurriculars, and so, I have been a part of CAPS right from my first year, and I was chosen as a peer educator in my second year of college. Since English is not my first language, I have always been conscious during public speaking. But all these activities and training sessions helped me overcome my fear and made me more eloquent. This helped a lot during the interview rounds. Considering that the aptitude test is usually the first round in any recruitment process, an additional course,” Analytical and Logical Reasoning,” was added in our fifth semester, which focused on covering topics that come in these tests.

What amazed me most while appearing for placements was the efficient shift to online modes. The recruitment process was very smooth, and the platforms used by my University and the companies that came successfully removed the barrier between a real platform and an online platform. All the processes were well co-ordinated, and I did not face any challenges as such. However, some outside factors caused slight difficulties like unstable internet connection, unexpected power cuts during aptitude tests, etc. Overall, it was a very unproblematic and smooth process."

"When I was selected to be the student placement representative from my class, my primary objective was to help my classmates in their journey of campus placements for Bcom Honors. So it was not until September, that I sat for placements myself because I volunteered for companies that were coming for recruitment. I applied for the Deloitte Audit Assistant role. The placement process was challenging because everything was online now; and we were not well acquainted with the platform adopted for the virtual interview mode. For Deloitte, we had a test, which has aptitude based. Then we had GD, which was challenging because it was online, and interacting with the fellow participants became difficult. Another challenge was, during the online interview-there was no way to establish proper eye contact with the interviewer, and we were mostly staring into the computer screen. Despite that, I cleared the interview and got placed at Deloitte.

In this journey, I had so much help from my department regarding the training sessions we had, like the placement talk series, which happened for two weeks in August, or the sessions with Goldman Sachs interns who guided us on various aspects, right from resume to interview questions. It has always been my cherished desire to work with one of the Big Four companies, and I owe a lot to my Department for helping me in landing a Dream Job."
