BCom Students Speak on Placements 2022

I have been living a city life since my birth. My foundational knowledge and skills are quite strong due to this. The Department of Commerce had helped me a lot during the whole placement process through orientations and timely clarification of queries. The Faculty from the Department of Commerce had also provided me guidance on choosing the right career path based on my academic and personal background. Apart from this, the Faculty Placement Coordinators from the Department of Commer have been organizing insightful sessions under the “Placement Talk Series” initiative. It really helped me get over my fear of facing the placement process. To share about my placement experience, I applied for four companies in total. I couldn’t get through the previous companies because I was not ready for them as I had not prepared myself well enough to appear for the shortlisting processes and get through them. Later, the practice of going through the various stages of recruitment process of some of these companies helped me improve, and the motivation that I got from peers, teachers, and family kept me going. Most companies follow these steps during the recruitment process i.e., preliminary or online test, group discussion, and personal interview (one or more rounds of each of these). The preliminary test is the most important, I would say. It is at this step where companies may eliminate most of the candidates. Therefore, every candidate should practice a lot to crack it. The other steps are not that very difficult to clear given that the candidate has sufficient academic knowledge and good critical thinking skills; however, these rounds are also equally important as these are elimination rounds too. Also, the student’s resume should be given a high significance as it determines our chance of getting placed. Sometimes, companies screen candidates based on their resume/CV before they can appear for the further rounds. Additionaly, during the interviews, the candidates will definitely be questioned based on their resumes. In my case, there were no technical questions, but rather questions based on only my resume. I had to think critically and answer various hypothetical questions. This is how my placement experience had been.

I am pursuing BCom from the Department of Commerce, and I am studying in the final year. The Department of Commerce has a huge role to play in my placements and always focused on the overall development of the students. The Department of Commerce gives equal importance to academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. All the projects and activities in the Department of Commerce always intended to benefit the students in the long-term career aspirations of the students, and always tried to give an understanding of the corporate world, which again in turn helped us a lot in preparing for our placement processes on campus. I have not done any certification course with my department. However, the Placement Talk Series conducted by the Department of Commerce were actually helpful from my point of view. Listening to our seniors made us more confident about the placement process and instilled a sense of belief in us that we will get placed, which again pushed us further to work hard for the recruitment processes and to take it more seriously. The reason I was not successful in my previous attempts might have been due to my unpreparedness for any aptitude tests, and it took a while for me to brush up my skills to crack such a competitive test. My placement process with Deloitte started with the pre-placement talk followed by the online aptitude test. I cleared the aptitude test, and the next phase was the group discussion. There were 9 members in the  Group Discussion phase. I cleared the same and was shortlisted for personal interview after the GD and the interview process went pretty well. After that, final selects were announced, and I was one among the final selects, for which I am very happy and glad to be placed in one of the Big Four Auditing firms.
