Career opportunities in Social Work
The Master of Social Work (MSW)
Programme offered by the School of Social Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be
University) was established in the year 2004. The MSW programmes are offered in
two different specializations viz Human Resource Development and Management
(HRDM) and Clinical and Community Practice (CCP). The MSW Programme has been
consistently ranked in the top ten, amongst Social Work Schools in the country
in surveys conducted by reputed magazines like India Today, Outlook to name a
few.
The Department of Sociology and Social
Work at the University has ensured the holistic development of the students
through a mix of classroom and experiential learning. Young people involved in
social work tend to become more socially aware and responsible. Today, Social
Work profession has come to flourish and offers more than just compulsory
community hours. It allows a deeper understanding of systemic problems and
a chance to bring about changes in society. The MSW programme is
structured such that students are required to do a mandatory two month full
time internship in industries / NGOs / hospitals etc during their first and
second year where they can apply their academic learning and also gain a
firsthand experience of working in different sectors.
Campus placements has been one of the
reasons for MSW being a much sought after programme in the University. The
students have secured jobs in different sectors like corporates, NGO’s,
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) profiles, counselling centres, schools,
hospitals to name a few. Some of the regular recruitment partners include
Vedanta Ltd, Titan Industries, Schneider Electric, BOSCH, Tata Power, Reliance
Jio, Accenture, Social Axiom Foundation etc. The job profiles offered include
HR Officer, Management Trainee HR, Labor Welfare Executive, CSR Executive,
Programme Coordinator, Counsellor to name a few.
Benjamin Franklin once said, "Without continual growth and
progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no
meaning". It is in the presence of a dynamic and progressive environment
such continual growth and progress deem possible. This is exactly the framework
the department and the placement office
adopted to create vital snippets of learning experience throughout our
last two semesters. Acing Aptitude tests, Mock Group Discussions and mock
personal Interviews became part of our day to day interactions as we awaited
for an opportunity to establish our substantial skills and knowledge. One to
one interactions with the faculty members and mentoring emerged as places where
we received comprehensive feedback and constructive criticism. Overall, as we
look back at the preparation time, it is notable to mention that all those
sessions organized by placement office and CAPS which may have appeared time consuming
then, in hindsight were the building blocks to help us achieve our dreams.

I am sure many readers will find this post useful. ¡Sigue con tu excelente trabajo! I look forward to seeing more fascinating factoids from your point of view in the future. ¡Muchas gracias por tu contribución!
