Campus hiring for Actuarial Science
Actuarial Science applies
mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance and finance
based industries. The Master of Science in Actuarial Science programme is
dedicated towards dealing with real-world scenarios and application of the analytical
process, thereby
helping students to prepare for Actuarial exams conducted by Institute of
Actuaries of India (IAI) or The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) in order to become a qualified
actuary. The Master of
Science in Actuarial Science programme offered by Christ (Deemed to be
University) has had an excellent placement season during 2019-20.
The Master of Science
in Actuarial Science programme covers key areas in global business with in-depth coverage of Risk
Management opening a plethora of opportunities in the insurance and global
investment sectors with the help of reputed faculty members who have immense
experience in this industry.
Along with our regular recruiters like Swiss Re and Ernst & Young (EY), other top firms like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and SE2 have also joined the list of campus recruiters. The top packages were Rs 7.20 lacs offered by Swiss Re and Rs 7.14 lacs offered by SE2. The selected students had to qualify through two rounds of written tests which were based on their basic understanding of General and Life Insurance, statistical skills and application to problem solving, analytical and aptitude skills. The personal interview rounds brought out the best in terms of communication skills and domain knowledge on the Insurance subject.
One of the proud moments of the department is 13 out of a batch of 20 students have cleared the first level exams conducted by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK, which is the first step towards being designated as a Fellow Actuary.
The students immensely benefitted
from the events arranged by the department who invited qualified actuaries and
people from the Industry for preparation for Core Technical papers. Mr. Harsh
Vikram Arora, Actuarial Software Consultant and Director at Bestlife Consulting
Services Limited, conducted a workshop on R packages, Fat Tailed Distributions,
and Actuarial Modelling Process.
An orientation was organized for freshers to familiarize them with the Professional Exams conducted by IFoA (Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) and IAI (Institute of Actuaries of India). First-year students began their actuarial journey and appeared for some professional exams.
Christ (Deemed to be University) in association with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Insurance Institute of India (III) organised the FIRMA Conclave, an event that aimed at propagating the advancements and prospects in the field of Finance, Insurance, Risk Management and Actuarial Science. A panel discussion with regard to the same was conducted which comprised of esteemed dignitaries from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA); Mr John Taylor - President (IFoA), Mr Clifford Friend - Director of Education (IFoA), and Mr Mahidhara D V - Council Member (IFoA). The conclave also imparted valuable insights with regard to Actuarial Education.
A national-level competition by Swiss Re, i.e., Thought Leadership Challenge for students to prepare and submit a research paper related to either “Insurance 2030” or “Bridging the Protection Gap in Emerging Markets” was conducted. The winners were from MSc Actuarial Science from Christ(Deemed to be University). The winners got to visit the Swiss Re Bangalore Office, and an opportunity for internship there.
