Experiences of MBA Students at School of Business and Management

The School of Business and Management (SBM) at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has been offering Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) since 1994. The School of Business and Management is one of the most-sought-after Business Schools in India due to the evolving and dynamic quality of syllabus and an excellent track record in placements. The curriculum includes research-based assignments and also provides an opportunity for self-learning, which supports the students in lifelong learning.

Despite the pandemic and a sudden switch to a virtual mode of campus recruitment, MBA placements at The School of Business and Management, Christ (Deemed to be University) have been extremely good. The recruiters are spread across sectors like Consulting, Artificial Intelligence, Manufacturing, FMCG, Information Technology, Healthcare, Real Estate Hospitality etc. Apart from rigorous academic syllabi that the students go through, they are also exposed to various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to help them prepare better for campus placement processes e.g., Business Fests.

Nothing speaks better than a testimonial. In the below paragraphs, a few MBA students speak on placements, the School of Business and Management, the MBA curriculum, extracurricular activities and also their experience on the Christ University campus

             Placements

“In the present situation, we all know campus placement holds a massive importance to both students and institutions. While, it makes a student's life easier to get into a job through campus placements without having to struggle with the real-time world job hunt and similarly for the institutions to get a competitive edge over the other institutions by successfully placing the majority of students. It is with such a dream that the majority of students step into this wonderful institution, The School of Business and Management, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), to holistically develop oneself and get placed in great companies. The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the entire world upside down affecting many areas, especially in our case, the businesses of the companies, and we all were in total worried state as to what will happen with the placements. However, from a personal point of view, I am totally thankful to this wonderful University & the exceptionally amazing placement team to bring in great companies to the college for the campus placements. No amount of thanks will be enough to praise the student placement coordinators who, being student themselves, volunteered for this activity and relentlessly worked to coordinate with each and every student right from start till the end, during placement season. Organizations listed in Fortune 100, best companies like Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC, to name a few, along with many others have visited our institution and have selected many students. This was our very first experience of virtual campus placement drives and all other interview processes, and kudos to everyone who patiently stayed throughout this journey. The entire process was handled in a very well- experienced and hassle-free manner. Once again, I would like to thank all those people who directly or indirectly helped us through these trying times.”  Sanoop C S

              Placements, Curriculum, Events & Fests

The School of Business and Management, Christ University changed me inside out. It made me a more confident and proactive person because of the continuous challenges it threw at me. Networking was my grey area. But at Christ University, I made friends from every state of India. I was overwhelmed to see how beautifully everyone represented their culture during Basha Utsav. The School of Business and Management, Christ University gave me many opportunities to be in leadership positions - be it management fests or being the Class Representative of my specialization. Christ University made me realize that not only hard work but also smart work leads to success. Regular SWOT analysis during the mentoring sessions gave me an insight into my areas of improvement and my core strengths. Continuous support from the faculties and friends helped me in upgrading my existing skill sets. Due to the pandemic, I thought my placements would be heavily affected but because of Christ University’s goodwill and brand persona, we made many big giants like HUL, Reckitt, Oracle, etc come to our campus for recruitment. I feel blessed that I was able to crack the Deloitte recruitment process, and all thanks to my alma mater, Christ University. Before I had entered The School of Business and Management, Christ University, I wasn’t even confident enough that I would be able to make it in Deloitte, but the trimester system and continuous internal assessment kept me highly involved in the academic curriculum. We used to work in teams which were called Academic groups. This bunch of people gives you many life lessons about how to work effectively in a team. At Christ University, we used to sit together and work for assignments after college hours. Being in different teams gave me a chance to connect and work with different kinds of people. It made me prepared for the real corporate challenges in the future. Today, I can say that Christ University not only gave me theoretical knowledge but also a practical approach. Christ University also gave me a lifetime experience of adventure via their Outbound Training activity program. In the end, I would conclude it by saying that “Christ University, you have my heart! A big thank you”.” Shreya Mishra

Curriculum

“Not many colleges follow a trimester system. As everyone would know, a very common approach by colleges is to have two semesters in a year which is good but then until you don't push yourself out of the comfort zone, you won't be able to innovate and develop. The School of Business and Management, Christ (Deemed to be University) has propelled its students to adapt to these changes and stay ahead of the competition. Having a trimester system gives us more assignments, exams and evaluations. Now, students would think having a trimester system is a kind of punishment and why to join if we would be loaded with a lot of work. This is where the students need to think in terms of the future, where in an organisation the workload would be lots, and The School of Business and Management , Christ University is preparing the students in advance to handle that kind of pressure. Trust me, no one likes the process, everyone wants results. But it is the process that helps us reach our best goals. Just like the saying goes “If your path is more difficult, it's because your calling is higher.” - Jonas Meteling. Christ University has done that for the students, many of them don’t realize this at the start, but definitely at the end they feel that having a complex course has had a major contribution to where they are standing now. The next best thing about the curriculum is the changes in minor subjects every year which are according to the latest market trends. The information on the latest trends is collected from the alumni of Christ University in various domains, giving an edge to the curriculum. To name a few, this year, marketing specialization students received digital marketing as a subject. HR specialization student received emotional intelligence and the technology related subjects because of the transformation that is happening due to the pandemic and the Industry 4.0. Considering all this, I will conclude that The School of Business and Management, Christ University is really up with the trends and churning out the best fits for placements to the companies as per the market demand.” Laxman Gokul

       Life at SBM

“The best thing about studying at the School of Business and Management, Christ University, is unquestionably the individuals, the students, faculty and alumni. At the School of Business and Management, the population is quite cosmopolitan in terms of demographics and viewpoints. However, individuals who meet in class and around the campus are thoughtful, friendly and keen on aiding each other. It's an enormous culture. Students love the School of Business and Management for many reasons, two of which are the school's adaptability and its location. The terms are planned so that the students can exploit scholarly learning while additionally adjusting to extracurricular and work opportunities. In the leisure time, the students have a chance to unreservedly explore the zones that interest them, like organizational behaviour and leadership. Students try to keep the weekend free with the goal that appreciates one of my different purposes behind picking School of Business and Management: living in and exploring Bengaluru. The pressure, all things considered, the difficulties, time on the board, the late evenings, the gathering work and managing others, it's surely agonizing now and again, but on the other hand, it's exciting too.” Samridh Agarwal
