Students' Experience of Placements - Commerce
Students' Experience of Placements - Commerce
I am Dhanush C S from Bangalore. Moving from a student phase to an employee phase is a beautiful transition, and I should thank Department Of Commerce, CHRIST Deemed to be University and the placement cell for providing me with an opportunity and getting placed in KPMG for the Audit Associate role. The emotional experience of getting placed with a Big Four dream company like KPMG is something I will cherish forever.
The Department of Commerce has always
provided me with excellent opportunities to develop at both professional and
personal level. The exposure I got from participating in many commerce fests,
right from Prarambh to Mitige, helped me develop my skills, and many webinars
conducted by the department helped me understand the ground reality of the
corporate world. Seminars and placement training activities undertaken by the
placement cell helped boost and increased my confidence level, which allowed me
to crack the interviews without any hurdle.
As a commerce student, the corporate arena
has always intrigued me. The way businesses run, departments function and their
integration with the external world not only drives me crazy, but our dream
roles further add up to the hope and excitement. I have often heard that the
job after graduation hits you differently, whether you are a fresher or an
experienced student and my first interview was with Deloitte for the audit
associate role. However, I couldn't convert the offer. Though I cleared all
elimination rounds right from the aptitude test till group discussion, I still
couldn't ace the final interview round somewhere, but be sure to learn from
your previous mistakes and keep practicing.
My first interaction with the KPMG happened
during their campus recruitment drive. The brief introduction at the
Pre-placement talk was like a pitch for me to apply and get through the Audit
associate role. Two things that contributed to my decision were the senior
folks who shared their experience about KPMG, and the other thing was my
interest in the Audit segment. The selection process was divided into three
rounds; firstly, I had an Aptitude test followed by a technical interview
round. Later, those who cleared the technical interview round had a Final HR
interview round.
My interview experience was one of the
memorable ones in comparison to all the others I sat for. The interviewer was
very adept and crisp with the questions about my internship, my previous
position of responsibilities, and my accountancy knowledge. I vividly remember
the rapid-fire round where she threw random situations at me, and I had to be
quick with the responses. The process ended up with a brief discussion about
the role and career progression at the firm. I was hopeful for my selection,
but finally, my selection was confirmed. Perhaps, I felt this was one of the
best decisions I had taken for my career.
I want to thank HOD, Coordinator and my
faculty for what I am today. The department has always endeavored to give
excellent opportunities to its students and moulds them to become better social
beings. At last, I must say that I am proud to be a part of the Department of
Commerce, CHRIST Deemed to be University.
Transitioning from student to employee is a milestone, and your journey from CHRIST Deemed University to KPMG is inspiring. Your reflection on the commerce department's support and your placement experience illustrates the value of mentorship and preparation. Congratulations on your success!
